GMoney Anchor - Today, we're joined by Dr. Bharat Gaikwad, an Ayurvedic practitioner with over thirteen years of experience, and the director of Shree Vishwa Dharma Ayurveda Clinic in Pune, Maharashtra. Dr. Gaikwad, a warm welcome to you.

Dr. Bharat Gaikwad Thank you.

migraine symptoms in hindi

GMoney Anchor - We're here to discuss migraine with Dr. Gaikwad, as Ayurveda offers effective treatment options for conditions like migraine, which often have limited solutions in allopathic medicine. Migraine, as we know, can significantly disrupt a person's daily routine due to its intense and often debilitating pain. Could you please clinically define migraine in Ayurveda?

Dr. Bharat Gaikwad Yes, indeed. Though migraine falls under the category of Sir Dard (headache) in Ayurveda, we have a specific chapter dedicated to migraines. Within Ayurveda, various types of Sir Dard are described, and the symptoms of migraine closely resemble those of a condition known as “Naamak Sharir” (literally meaning “half-body” in Sanskrit). Migraine typically manifests as throbbing or pulsating pain localized to one half of the head, often extending to the eyes, neck, and parts of the face.

GMoney Anchor - I see. Dr. Gaikwad, could you elaborate on the location of migraine pain compared to regular headaches?

Dr. Bharat Gaikwad Certainly. While a regular headache, or “Aam Sir Dard,” typically presents as diffuse pain across the entire head, migraine pain is more localized to one side or half of the head. Additionally, migraine pain can affect areas such as the eyes, neck, and specific regions of the face, accompanied by a throbbing sensation.

GMoney Anchor - Understood. If someone experiences migraine attacks, does the pain persist throughout the day or does it come and go?

Dr. Bharat Gaikwad – The pain doesn’t typically last the entire day. In my clinic, I’ve observed various patterns among patients. Some may experience pain for several hours, while others may endure it for a few days. It varies from person to person.

GMoney Anchor - I see. Dr. Gaikwad, speaking of migraine causes, we often witness individuals attributing migraine attacks to various factors like stress, dietary habits, or even exposure to sunlight. Could you shed some light on the primary causes and how detrimental frequent use of painkillers like Disprin can be?

Dr. Bharat Gaikwad – Yes, indeed. While allopathic medicine may not offer a definitive cause for migraines, Ayurveda, through its holistic approach, identifies multiple factors. In my thirteen years of practice, I’ve encountered several triggers, including night shifts, strong odors, exposure to direct sunlight or artificial lighting, and excessive use of electronic devices like mobile phones. These factors can all contribute to migraine attacks. As for painkillers, while they may provide temporary relief, frequent and prolonged use can lead to adverse effects.

GMoney Anchor - That's enlightening, Dr. Gaikwad. Could you explain how Ayurvedic treatment approaches migraine and the duration one can expect for visible results?

Dr. Bharat Gaikwad – Ayurvedic treatment for migraine aims to address the root cause of the condition rather than just alleviating symptoms. Depending on the severity and individual constitution, treatment duration can vary from seven days to several months. We utilize a combination of internal medications and external therapies like Nasya (nasal administration of medicated oils) and Shiro Abhyanga (head massage) to achieve holistic healing.

GMoney Anchor - Fascinating. Dr. Gaikwad, for those experiencing intense migraine pain, what immediate steps can they take before seeking professional help?

Dr. Bharat Gaikwad – In cases of acute migraine pain, it’s advisable to seek immediate relief while simultaneously addressing the root cause through Ayurvedic treatment. Over-the-counter painkillers may provide temporary relief, but they should be used sparingly and as a last resort. Additionally, natural remedies like Narikel Lavan (coconut-based preparation) and Anu Taila (medicated oil) can offer relief when applied externally or used for nasal administration.

GMoney Anchor - Thank you, Dr. Gaikwad, for sharing your insights on migraine prevention techniques. Stress management, adequate sleep, and Ayurvedic remedies like head massages and nasal administration seem to be key. We appreciate your time and expertise in educating us on this important topic.

Dr. Bharat Gaikwad – My pleasure. Thank you for having me.
