GMoney Anchor - Doctor, first of all, I would like to ask you about wisdom teeth. What makes them special? Because we've all heard since childhood that when wisdom teeth come in, it feels like wisdom has arrived. Can you explain why they are considered special?

Dr. Pankaj Malhotra – Well, wisdom teeth are considered special because they typically emerge when we are transitioning into adulthood, usually between 17 to 21 years of age. It’s like a sign that we are growing up.

Dr. Pankaj Malhotra – If we feel like wisdom has arrived, it’s because, in a way, it has. The term “wisdom tooth” is used because it often brings a bit of trouble while emerging, causing some discomfort.

Dr. Pankaj Malhotra – I would like to inform everyone that our jaw sizes are gradually decreasing, which sometimes makes it challenging for wisdom teeth to come out properly. This can lead to more problems.

GMoney Anchor - Today, the pain associated with wisdom teeth is quite impactful. In such a scenario, what should a person do? Should they visit a doctor, or do you have any home remedies to suggest? Because sometimes people experience severe pain when their wisdom teeth are coming in. So, if you could provide some advice.

Dr. Pankaj Malhotra – Firstly, when a new tooth is emerging, it’s normal to experience some tenderness, swelling, and other discomforts. For this, rinsing your mouth with warm water mixed with salt a few times a day at home can bring relief. However, in cases where the pain persists in the long term, it’s advisable to see a dentist for a proper examination and treatment options.

Dr. Pankaj Malhotra – If a doctor prescribes medications for the pain, they can be effective in the short term.

GMoney Anchor - Sir, I have read in some articles that people suggest removing wisdom teeth. What is your opinion on this?

Dr. Pankaj Malhotra – Mostly, nowadays, due to the evolution of our body, like the reduction in jaw size over generations, wisdom teeth act as extra teeth. They might get stuck or not emerge correctly, causing problems. In cases where they are causing issues or potential harm to other teeth, extraction is a viable option. However, if they are not causing any trouble and are in good condition, they can be left alone.

GMoney Anchor - Lastly, for all the viewers watching, if you could provide one tip to keep our teeth healthy, maybe some food items to include in our diet or a habit to adopt in our daily lives. What would that tip be?

Dr. Pankaj Malhotra – Firstly, it’s mandatory to brush twice a day. Additionally, regular dental check-ups every six months are crucial. This helps in early detection of any issues, and dental cleanings are necessary, even if you maintain good oral hygiene at home. As for dietary habits, include green vegetables and salads in your meals. Minimize the intake of junk food as it can lead to cavities and other dental problems.

Dr. Pankaj Malhotra – Maintain good oral hygiene, and if there are no issues, visiting the dentist regularly for check-ups and cleanings is a key preventive measure.

GMoney Anchor - Thank you so much, Doctor. Taking time out from your busy schedule for our GMoney health show. The entire team appreciates it. Thank you on behalf of the show.

Dr. Pankaj Malhotra – Thank you from my side as well for having me on the show.
